óla santo domingo

DR was a discovery.  To escape the cold in Miami, I booked a 3 day visit, concentrating on the capital Santo Domingo.  What a lovely place!  The people could not have been nicer and the city is much fun, especially the Colonial Zone.  It was founded by Columbus’s brother Bartholomew and is the oldest continually habited European settlement in the Americas.

Come take a look at a small portion of what the historic zone has to offer, visit some beautiful sinkholes carved out of the coral rock, plus more. While English is spoken in hotels, Spanish elsewhere helps.  I enjoyed the opportunity to improve my rusty Spanish and look forward to returning soon to explore more of the island and its famous beaches.  [please hover over images for captions]
